Barbara Fix

JOPLIN, Mo. — Irene Barbara Fix, age 83, of Joplin, passed away on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Freeman West Hospital.

Barbara was born Aug. 26, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., daughter of the late Richard Glen Taylor and Irene Stanley Taylor. Barbara graduated from Joplin High School, and attended Joplin Junior College. She was a court reporter for the State of Missouri Workers Compensation for over 30 years, retiring in 1987.

She was a member of the Venture Club prior to becoming a member of the Soroptimist Club which she enjoyed for many years. She was an avid counted cross-stitcher for many years, and even taught others to excel in this craft. She enjoyed collecting Antique Samplers, and Antique Milk Glass, and was a member of the National Milk Glass Association. Barbara was known as a perfectionist with everything she participated in, and this was especially evident in her counted cross-stitching works. She was also known to enjoy watching figure skating and gymnastics on television. She was an avid reader as well.

Survivors include her husband John F. Fix, whom she married Aug. 2, 1958, in Joplin; her brothers, Darrell Taylor and wife, Gerry, of Ft. Smith, Ark., and R. Kent Taylor and wife, Marilyn, of Joplin; nieces and nephews, Kent W. Taylor and wife, Amy, Lacey Bingaman and husband, Jamie, John Taylor and wife, Vimala, and Matt Taylor and wife, Daisy; several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel.  Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Monday from 2 p.m. until service time.
