CHEROKEE, KS —
Devon Acie Tickel, 76, of Cherokee, Kan., died at 11:24 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan., of an illness.
He was born Nov. 1, 1936, in Foster, Mo., the son of Acie and Bernice Moody Tickel. He had been a resident of Cherokee for most of his life.
Mr. Tickel attended Pittsburg State University and worked as an accountant for Calibrated Forms in Columbus, Kan., prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherokee, and the Cherokee Gun Club.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Tickel, of Kansas City, Mo., and Rev. Jamie Tickel, of Carl Junction, Mo.; one daughter, Mendy Grotheer, of Pittsburg; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 104 West Main Street, in Weir, Kan., with his son, the Rev. Jamie Tickel, pastor of the First Baptist Church, 633 South Pearl Avenue in Joplin, Mo., officiating. Burial will be in the Cherokee City Cemetery in Cherokee. The family will receive their friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 104 West Main Street in Weir. Friends may call at the funeral home anytime after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church in Cherokee, in care of the funeral home.
