Leta Mae Asbell

CARTHAGE, MO —

Leta Mae Asbell, 76, of Carthage, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Leta was born on March 22, 1936, in Kenoma, Mo., the daughter of Roy Fischer and Almeta Bruffet Fischer. After graduating from Lamar High School, she moved to Carthage in 1955, where she worked at the Drake Hotel. Leta was a homemaker. She was a charter member of the Carthage Evangel Assembly of God Church, where she served for several years as Sunday school teacher, missionette leader and pianist. Leta was also involved with local nursing home ministries. She will be best remembered for her love of piano playing, her passion for her family and her relationship with her Savior Jesus Christ.

Leta was married to William Asbell on Sept. 29, 1956, in Jasper, Mo.  

Leta is survived by her husband, William Asbell, of  the home; one son, Jerry Asbell Sr., of Columbia, Mo.; two daughters, Cleta McNary, of Bolivar, Mo., and Sherri Asbell, of Carthage; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Almeta Fischer; and one brother, Harold Fischer.

Open visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Ulmer Funeral Home. A private family service will be at a later date.
