GALENA, Kan. — GALENA, Kan. - Teddy Wayne "Tater" Watkins, age 80, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital following an illness.

Ted was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Galena, Kan. His parents were Leo B. and Ida Mae ( Rogers) Watkins. He was a lifelong resident of Galena.

He was a postman, working 32 years at the Galena Post Office. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U S Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the Galena Elks Lodge. Among his interests were playing poker, fishing and hunting.

Surviving is one son, Bradley (and Laura) Watkins, Galena; two step-sons, Mike (and Mecheal) Hopkins, Baxter Springs, Kan. and Bill (and Tanya) Hopkins, Galena; four grandchildren, Amanda Jo Watkins, Dalton Watkins, Josh Hopkins, and Michael Hopkins; two great-grandchildren, Azalee Hopkins, and K C Tyler Hopkins; one brother, Bob Watkins, Galena; three sisters, Doris Scott, Galena, Jane Sturgis, Galena, and Mary Jo Williams, Joplin, Mo.

The body was taken for cremation under the care of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kan.

A graveside memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Lowell Cemetery, Lowell, Kan. Pastor Jeff D. Martin will officiate.  Galena Elks Lodge will conduct graveside rites.
