JOPLIN, MO —  

Elmer L. Benham, age 76, of Joplin, Mo., passed Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Seneca House, following an extended illness.

Elmer was born on June 26, 1936, in Elmer, Okla., the son of R.B and Gladys Benham. Elmer served in the Marine Corp. He then became a truck driver for the most part in his life. Later he worked at Landmark Hospital, here in Joplin, and retired in 2011.  

He married Patricia Bolfik on Feb. 17, 1956. She preceded him in death in 2012.

Additional survivors include his children, Diana Swanson and her husband, Don, of Monett, Mo., Steve Benham and wife, Mary, Nevada City, Calif., Greg Benham and wife, Teri, of Mattoon, Ill., Bruce Benham  and wife, Delores, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Betty Thompson, of Joplin; one brother deceased, Charles R. Benham and one brother, Wayne Benham, of Joplin; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Elmer was loved deeply by his children, grandchildren and friends. He was a man of great compassion and warmth. He will be missed by all and he will never be forgotten.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Rex Robertson will officiate. Burial will immediately follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory.
