NEOSHO, MO —
Albert J. Grabow, 72, entered into rest on Dec. 15, 2012, at Medicalodge of Neosho, Neosho, Mo., following a lengthy illness with Parkinson's Disease.
Al Grabow was born April 19, 1940, in Los Angeles County, Calif., to John and Mildred (Chlada) Grabow.
Mr. Grabow graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School, Cicero, Ill., in 1958, and from the University of Texas, El Paso, Texas, in 1963. He taught at Sam Houston State College, Huntsville, Texas, where he also graduated with a Master's degree in 1965. Al met Mary, his future wife, while at Sam Houston State. Mr. Grabow taught at Tyler Junior College, Tyler, Texas, and served as administrative assistant to the President of Laredo Jr. College, Laredo, Texas. He came to Crowder College, Neosho, in 1968, as an instructor; becoming College Business Manager later that year. While with Crowder College, Mr. Grabow taught economics and geography, subjects which he truly enjoyed. Conversant in Spanish, he traveled extensively throughout Mexico in the 1960s, and Spain in his later years. Over his career with Crowder, Mr. Grabow always considered himself to have been a lucky man. He was a long-term member of the Neosho Rotary Club and received designation as a Paul Harris Fellow. Al retired from the position of College Business Manager in 2001, but continued to teach at Crowder until 2010.
Al and Mary Woodley were married in Huntsville, on April 14, 1956. She survives.
He is also survived by daughter, Mary Ann Gilreath (DOB May 2, 1968) and husband, Jason, of Neosho, and their children, Erin E. Casey (DOB July 10, 1990), Derek C. McCarty (DOB Nov. 18, 1996), Dora J. Gilreath (DOB Aug. 17, 2001) and Dana M. Gilreath (DOB Aug. 23, 2002); daughter, Rhonda Lee Canales (DOB July 10, 1969) and husband, Hector, of Roma, Texas, and their children, Jacob A. Canales (DOB July 9, 1997) and Tyler J. Canales (DOB July 5, 2000); and sister, Joanne Dybala and husband, Ed, of Chicago, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Clark Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, Neosho. Interment will be in IOOF cemetery, Neosho, Rev. Ralph Walker officiating. The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, and visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19.
