JOPLIN, Mo. —
Billy L. Smith, 77, of Joplin, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Feb. 23, 2013, in Joplin, after a short but determined and courageous battle against cancer.
Billy served in the U.S. Army in Korea. While stationed at Fort Crowder he met and married Phoebe Ann Betterton.
Billy ran the printing department for Crown Coach which later became Jefferson Bus Lines. After the Joplin branch closed, he opened, owned and operated Printing Services with his wife, Phoebe.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and both brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years and their children, Valerie Hembree and husband, Terry, Wayne Smith and wife, Chris, Monica Wolfe, Denise Lewis and husband, Steven and Stephen Smith; and his 12 grandchildren, T. K. Hembree, Laura Hembree, Joshua, Lakeshia, Nathan and Faith Smith, Amanda and Heather Wolfe, Shauna Switzer, Corey Tipton, Taylor and Tyler Smith. Billy had nine great-grandchildren.
Private services are planned and the body will be taken for cremation.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by the Midland Cremation Society in Joplin.
