CHETOPA, Kan. —
Iva Mae Stephens, 90, of Chetopa, Kan., died 2:07 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., following an illness.
Iva was born April 7, 1922, in Pittsburg, Kan., the daughter of William and Myrtle (Hicks) Beard. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Pittsburg High School in 1939. She later continued her education at Kansas Teacher's College in Pittsburg.
On April 22, 1978, Iva married Donald Stephens in Pittsburg. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2003.
Iva worked as a secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg, for over 30 years; was a member of the First United Methodist Church; the Five Mary's Circle; Order of the Eastern Star; the Jayhawk Janes during World War II and loved to travel during her free time.
Survivors include her sister, Billie Lou Craddock, of Asbury, Mo.; niece, Nikki Burnside, of Oronogo, Mo.; nephew, Mark Craddock, of Artesia, N.M.; nieces and nephews, Kelly Jones and husband, Steven, Rachael Lingnau and husband, Michael and Ryan Craddock. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A celebration of life will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 8, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg. Burial will follow at a later date in Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 South Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762.
