MOBERLY, MO —
Esther Joan Creed, of Moberly, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, in Columbia, Mo.
Esther was born March 7, 1925, in Otis, Colo., the daughter of Henry H. DeVries and Anna Ethel Cantrell.
She married Merle Dean Creed Dec. 5, 1946, in Springfield, Mo.
Mrs. Creed was employed as a social worker and was the head of the Randolph County office. She was a past president of Altrusa Club and a member of the Moberly Thrift FCE Club since 1987.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Elizabeth Creed, of Peculiar, Mo.; a brother, Earl Joseph and Georgia DeVries, of Blue Springs; a sister, Emily Lucille Lawson, of Moberly; four step grandsons; 11 step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Esther was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Orville Ray DeVries and Henry Chester DeVries; and one sister, Ethel Alberta Shute.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with visitation prior to the service at 12 p.m. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, in IOOF Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Mo.
Pathway Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorial contributions appreciated to the National Kidney Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
