CARL JUNCTION —

CARL JUNCTION, Mo.— Hershel H. Kaiser, age 89, of Carl Junction, passed away at the Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, April 12, 2010, following a lengthy illness.

Hershel was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Monett, Mo., to Hubert and Lydia Wilhelmina Kaiser. He was a 1937 graduate of Monett High School. His pursuit of a career was interrupted by the event of Dec. 7, 1941, and shortly thereafter he joined the U.S. Navy. He spent the next four years at sea and in foreign lands on war time duty in honorable service to this country while attaining the rank of chief radioman. In 1950, he was recalled to active duty to serve in the Korean War.

Hershel worked for 15 years for the Webb City Bank and for over 35 years he was an agent for Shelter Insurance with his last office located at 20th and Wall in Joplin. He retired from his insurance business at the age of 80 in order to allow more time to play golf. He was a long-time member of the Twin Hills Golf and Country Club and was an esteemed member of the Diesel Fitters. He was a former member and past president of the Webb City R-7 School Board and a former member of the Webb City Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and by his first wife, Mary Louise Lundien Kaiser.

Survivors include his wife, Marian “Mim” Kaiser, of the home; two sons, Randee Kaiser and wife, Susan, Holts, Summit, Mo., and Chris Kaiser and wife, Nina, Duenweg, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Christy Phillips and husband, Larry, Joplin, and Sarah McAfee and husband, Bob, Carl Junction; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Carl Junction Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Porter officiating. The casket will be closed at all times.
