Frank Bruce Edwards

CARTHAGE —

Frank Bruce Edwards Jr., 68, of Carthage, Mo., died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Barnes Jewish-Hospital, St. Louis.

Dr. Edwards was born Dec. 30, 1941, in Mexico, Mo., to Frank Bruce Edwards and Anna Frances Meffert Edwards.

Dr. Edwards received his early education in Mexico public schools, graduating from Mexico High School in 1959. He was an Eagle Scout. Dr. Edwards received his B.A. degree from Westminster College, Fulton, Mo., in 1963. He then pursued his graduate plans at the University of Missouri, Columbia, graduating in 1968, with a PhD. In Biochemistry and from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 1970. Dr. Edwards took his internship and internal medicine residency at St. John’s Hospital, Creve Couer, Mo., with a two-year pause for military service at Darnell Army Hospital, Fort Hood, Texas. He and his family moved to Carthage in 1974, where he began a family medicine practice that spanned 36 years.

Dr. Edwards served as medical director at McCune Brooks Hospital from 2001 to 2004, as medical director of the hospital’s Generations Unit from 2004 to 2010, and as medical director of the Sarcoxie Nursing Center from 1993, until his death.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret (Muffy) Edwards, of the home; and two daughters, Sonya and her husband, Chris Faiella, of Moberly, Mo., and Kelli Edwards and her husband, Ben Evett, of Boston, Mass.; and five grandchildren, Sophia, Colette and Nick Faiella and Spencer and Dashiell Evett. He is also survived by his brother, Charles M. Edwards and his wife, Janet, Joplin, Mo.

The family will receive visitors at Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage, on Sunday, April 18, from 4 to 6 p.m.Private family services will be held at a later date.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Westminster College, Fulton, Mo., Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage, or the Crisis Center, Carthage.
