WEBB CITY, MO —
Dorotha Deene (Brown) Packer, 708 West 10th Street, Webb City, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, following a long illness.
Mrs. Packer was born on Feb. 13, 1926, in Barnsdall, Okla., to Carl M. Brown Sr. and Lillian A. (Huddleston) Brown. Her parents preceded her in death, as well as her brother, Carl M. Brown Jr.
She married John B. Packer on Aug. 20, 1945, in Columbus, Kan. They were married 48 years and had four daughters. He preceded her in death, Dec. 28, 1993.
Dorotha spent her life taking care of her husband and family. She enjoyed many hobbies and crafts including being an Artex dealer, bowling, sewing, doll making, writing poems and short stories and cake decorating. She operated her own business for several years, known as “Cakes by Dorotha” until retirement. She then discovered the art and love of making handmade cards. She put her heart and soul into the treasured cards she made for others. She took care and time to choose the right design for each person that received them. In her later years, Dorotha loved being involved in the Red Hat Society and all that entailed and attending The Senior Center in Carl Junction. She enjoyed being social and spending hours and hours playing games with her family and friends. She loved doting on her great grandchildren and took pride in their shared love of crafts and games. She was very proud to be called Granny and Granny Great. Dorotha is loved deeply and will be missed greatly by the family and friends she has left behind.
Her four daughters and sons-in-law survive. They are Loudeene and John Spencer, Dallas, Texas, Debbi and Rick Ball, Carterville, Gail and Steve Bliesner, Richwood, Ohio, and Johnna and Steve Garrett, Carthage. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Misty and Jeff Phillips, Joplin, Brandy Spencer, Dallas, Ryan and Ashley Garrett, Springfield, Mo., and Corey Bliesner, New York, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren, Michael Phillips and Page Phillips, Joplin, and Ellie Garrett, Springfield; as well as an honorary daughter and close family friend, Sheila Ray, Webb City.
Pall Bearers are her sons-in-law and grandsons, John Spencer, Rick Ball, Steve Bliesner, Steve Garrett, Ryan Garrett and Corey Bliesner. Rev. Rick Ball, son-in-law, will be officiating and Ryan Garrett, grandson, speaking in memoriam. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, Webb City. Graveside services will be at Carterville Cemetery, Saturday at 10 a.m.
