Inaugural parade route expected to fill up quickly

WASHINGTON (AP) — Spectators hoping to attend the inaugural parade are being urged to show up early, with officials warning they’ll close off access once the crowd reaches capacity of some 300,000.

District of Columbia Mayor Adrian M. Fenty said Tuesday that security checkpoints surrounding the parade on Pennsylvania Avenue will open at 7 a.m. and the area likely will be filled within three hours.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.

Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan says the area can hold about 300,000 to 350,000 spectators. He says everyone will be screened at checkpoints before entering the viewing area.

The parade route begins on Capitol Hill and ends in front of the White House.
