Plans for a new turf at Carnie Smith Stadium and an increase in single-game football ticket prices were announced Tuesday by Pittsburg State University.
The current FieldTurf at Carnie Smith Stadium, which was installed prior to the 2002 season, has begun to fade and develop black splotches due to the rubber infill. School officials decided to switch companies this time around, going with Mondoturf from Kiefer Specialty Flooring.
An artist’s rendering shows some changes to the field design as well. The recognizable split-face gorilla logo is still at midfield, but the end zones are black with red lettering outlined in yellow. Red has been added to each 20-yard line as well as the bench areas on the sideline.
Pittsburg State athletics director Jim Johnson said in a video released on the school’s website that the new turf would be installed after summer camps conclude.
Johnson also announced in the video that all non-season ticket prices would increase for the 2012 season. Season tickets will remain at $12 per seat while non-season tickets for reserved seats range from $15 in advance to $18 on game day. General admission is $12 in advance and $15 on game day.
