PITTSBURG, Kan. —
Four players scored in double figures and the Pittsburg State Gorillas ran their winning streak to seven games with a 76-62 win over the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers on Thursday night at John Lance Arena.
The win moved Pitt State to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play. UNK fell to 3-8 and 0-3.
Pitt State will face Northwest Missouri, also 3-0 in the league, on Saturday.
Pitt State led 34-25 at the half before the Lopers opened the second half with an 11-2 run to knot the game at 36.
UNK eventually took a 41-39 lead with 14:32 to play. But the Gorillas then scored 13 of the next 15 points — including back-to-back steals that led to dunks — and the Lopers didn’t get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Pitt State led by as much as 17 down the stretch.
JaVon McGee led Pitt State with a game-high 18 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the field while Courtney Ingram and Jake Bullard each added 11. Kaleb Porter had 10 points. Rico Pierrevilus led the Gorillas with seven rebounds.
UNK got 17 points from Kendal Glidden while Tyler Shields added 12.
Pitt State women win
The Pittsburg State women pulled away in the second half and claimed a 62-43 win over Nebraska-Kearney.
The win moved the Gorillas to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA. UNK fell to 4-6 and 1-2.
Lizzy Jeronimus led the Gorillas with a game-high 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field. Morgan Westhoff came off the bench to score 12 points on 3 of 5 shooting from beyond the arc.
Ivy Jones led Nebraska-Kearney with 12 points.
Pitt State used a 13-0 run in the second half to build a 17-point lead and never looked back. The Gorillas led by as much as 20 down the stretch.
