Pittsburg State coach Russ Jewett announced Friday the signings of 10 athletes who will compete for the Gorilla men in either cross country or track and field.
The Gorillas signed four distance runners in Mulvane’s Ren Bean, Copan (Okla.) High School’s Andrew Rodgers, Bishop Kelley (Okla.) High’s Sam Stephan and Raymore-Peculiar’s Brody Wild. The four are expected to compete in cross country, as well as distance events in track. Rodgers was an Oklahoma state champion in cross country, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters.
Prairie View athletes Zachary Craig and Jayce Phelps signed to compete in the pole vault. Phelps was a 2012 Kansas Class 3A state champion, and Craig was a state qualifier.
Lebanon senior Aren Martin, who also signed to play football for the Gorillas, will be a sprinter.
Humboldt senior Tanner McNutt, who was a 3A state champ in the 800 meters in 2012, is expected to compete in the 400, 800 and the long jump.
Ottawa senior Dallas Natt, who won the 4A state title in the triple jump as a junior, is slated to compete in the long jump and triple jump at Pittsburg State.
Parsons senior Abraham Russell will likely compete in the 400, 800, long jump and triple jump.
