Gorillas sign three more for women's basketball

From staff reports

— The Pittsburg State women’s basketball team officially announced the addition of four signees on Thursday.

Mount Vernon’s Tamiaya Henderson, who signed with the Gorillas last week, is joined by transfer players Katy Cooper, Alex Muff and Nett Reed.

Cooper, from East Newton, transfers from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, where she averaged seven points and nine rebounds per game as a sophomore.

“Katy is a good athlete at the post position,” PSU coach Lane Lord said in a release. “At 6-foot-2, she can post up inside or step out and shoot a mid-range jumper or 3-pointer.”

Alex Muff, the 6-foot-1 daughter of Pitt State men’s coach Kevin Muff, joins the Gorillas after a four-year volleyball career at Kansas State. She led the Big 12 with 1.39 blocks per game. In high school, she helped Concordia to a state basketball title as a senior and a state runner-up finish as a junior. The three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection will have one year of eligibility left while pursuing her masters degree.

Reed, a 5-foot-9 guard, transfers from Saint Petersburg (Fla.) College. The Blakely, Ga., native was a second-team junior college all-American and was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year this season. She averaged 16 points, nine rebounds and three steals per game. The assistant coach at Saint Petersburg is Leslie Dudley Morrow, the Gorillas’ career scoring leader.

“Nett will bring us scoring from the perimeter, rebounding and great athleticism at both ends of the court.” Lord said.
