Ethan Cordray, sharp-shooting guard for the Coffeyville Community College basketball team, is the latest Pittsburg State University signee for the 2012-13 campaign.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Cordray, in the two seasons for the Red Ravens, was a part-time starter and two-year contributor as well as one of the leading 3-point shooters in the Jayhawk Conference.
Cordray shot 40.5 percent from beyond the arc on 34 of 84. That accuracy ranked him third in the region behind only Garden City’s Chauncy Williams (41.4) and Allen County’s Seth Walden (40.5).
The Red Ravens finished 65-9 during Cordray’s two seasons and they were fifth nationally in 2010-11.
Said PSU coach Kevin Muff: “Ethan fills a much needed role for our team in his ability to shoot from the perimeter and stretch defenses. He personifies what a student athlete is and should be.
“It’s good for a program to have a local player like Ethan on our roster,” Muff said. “Coming from a prestigious program, he knows the importance of hard work and how that translates into individual and team success.”
Cordray was a two-time Kansas Class 4A all-stater at Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville for Dan Wall.
The three-time, all-Southeast Kansas League selection averaged 17 points and 4.5 rebounds in helping the Golden Tornado to a 20-5 record and fourth place at state as a senior.
Previous PSU signees: 6-1 freshman Dilepso “Ray” Blanco, Newark, N.J.; 6-5 freshman Jake Bullard, Vinita, Okla.; 6-5 junior Terrell Eaddy, Bronx, N.Y.; 6-7 freshman Denton Hays, Tulsa, Okla., and 5-11 freshman Kaleb Porter, Tulsa.
