EDMOND, Okla. —
Drew Roberts needed only one point to reach 1,000 points for her career.
The Pittsburg State senior guard accomplished that task less than two minutes into the game and finished with 15 points to help the Gorillas earn a 79-68 win over Central Oklahoma on Saturday at Hamilton Field House.
Roberts surpassed the milestone with a 3-pointer at the 18:34 mark of the first half. She was 5-for-12 from the field with two 3-pointers to tie her season high in points.
While Roberts and guard Alexa Bordewick combined for five 3-pointers, Lauren Brown and Lizzy Jeronimus scored 16 points each and combined for 24 rebounds.
Brown pulled down 14 boards, including eight offensive rebounds. The Gorillas owned the rebound advantage 48-34 and registered 18 offensive rebounds compared to Central Oklahoma’s nine.
Central Oklahoma (9-15, 2-14 MIAA) led 41-40 at halftime, but Pittsburg State (17-7, 11-5 MIAA) shot 53.8 percent from the field in the second half and outscored the Bronchos 39-27.
The Gorillas gained the lead within the first two minutes of the second half and never trailed again.
Jill Bryan led the Bronchos with 18 points.

As good as Pittsburg State’s offense was in the second half, it was equally bad in the first half.
The Gorillas shot 64.3 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the 3-point line to score 50 points in the second half. However, it still wasn’t enough to recover from a poor start that allowed Central Oklahoma to take a 46-26 halftime lead.
Pittsburg State (15-9, 8-8 MIAA) was hindered by 16 turnovers. The Bronchos (12-11, 10-5 MIAA) recorded nine steals.
The Gorillas used a 14-3 run in the second half to cut Central Oklahoma’s lead to 73-63 with 5:41 remaining but was unable to pull any closer.
Central Oklahoma kept pace with the Gorillas by shooting 57.7 percent from the field in the second half.
Josh Gibbs led Central Oklahoma with 23 points, while Christian Huffman (17), Spencer Smith (13), June Carter (10) and Jarnell Cormier (10) all scored in double figures.
Jake Bullard led the Gorillas with 19 points. Kaleb Porter added 17.
The Pittsburg State men and women will be at home Wednesday against Missouri Southern.
The women’s game will tip off at 5:30 p.m., and the men’s game will follow.
