Brandon Williams, John Brown receive top regional honors

Missouri Southern defensive tackle Brandon Williams and Pittsburg State return specialist John Brown were named players of the year on the 2012 Don Hansen All-Super Region Three football team, it was announced Wednesday.

Missouri Western running back Michael Hill, a finalist for the Harlon Hill Award, was the region’s offensive player of the year.

Williams, also the MIAA defensive player of the year, recorded 31 solo and 68 total tackles, including 16.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 quarterback sacks.

Brown, a junior, was second in NCAA Division II with 2,000 all-purpose yards. He averaged 15.4 yards on punt returns. He was named first-team all-region as both a return specialist and all-purpose player.

Missouri Southern freshman fullback Javonte Edwards was named third team all-region. He gained 300 yards rushing and averaged 4.3 yards per carry.

Pittsburg State has three more players on the team. Linebacker Nate Dreiling earned first-team laurels for the third year, and offensive tackle Cody Holland, who prepped at Neosho, and defensive end Gus Toca are second-team picks.

MIAA champion Missouri Western has three more first-team players in addition to Hill — quarterback Jerry Partridge, offensive tackle Macon Allen and defensive end David Bass.

Other first-team sections from the MIAA: wide receiver Shjuan Richardson and tight end Adam Schiltz from Emporia State, offensive tackle Rod Williams, linebacker Colin DeBuysere and safety Nate DeJong from Northwest Missouri and cornerback Pierre Desir from Lindenwood.
