    The day is finally here. It’s National Signing Day, and the Pittsburg State Gorillas are beginning to officially release the names of their 2014 football signing class as the letters of intent arrive on the fax machine.

  • BLOG: Events provide relief for baseball fans

    For those hardcore baseball fans who dread the offseason, several events are planned in the area to remind us that spring isn't too far away.

    The St. Louis Cardinals Caravan will stop in Joplin at noon Saturday, Jan. 18 at Missouri Southern State University's Taylor Performance Arts Center. 

    Players at the caravan include pitchers Shelby Miller and Joe Kelly, as well as infielder Kolten Wong.

    Miller was 15-9 with a 3.09 ERA over 31 starts for the Cardinals in 2013. 

    Used as a starter and a reliever last year, Kelly was 10-5 with a 2.69 ERA in 37 appearances for the Cardinals. 

    Wong, a first-round pick in 2011, hit .153 in 32 games for St. Louis last year.

    Former Cardinals at the event include Danny Cox and Tom Lawless.

    The first 400 children (15-and-under) at the Cardinals Caravan will receive a free autograph ticket that guarantees one autograph for each current and former player at the event. 

    St. Louis Cardinals legend Ozzie Smith will be in Miami, Okla., on Jan. 25 for the fourth annual RBI Snowball Classic. Smith, a Hall of Famer, will serve as the featured guest speaker for the event at the Coleman Theater Ballroom in downtown Miami. Tickets for the event are $125, and the funds from the event will help renovate Miami's baseball and softball fields. For more information, call (918)542-4479.

    If you're a Kansas City Royals fan, the Royals Caravan will stop in Joplin at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Academy Sports, 1717 S. Range Line. 

    Players for the Royals Caravan haven't been announced yet.
