Our senior centers had a very busy schedule last month. It was National Nutrition Month and all centers participated in a “dinner plate” fundraiser. The centers took donations for their homebound meal programs, and the donors were acknowledged on their “wall of fame.” We would like to thank all who participated in the fundraiser to make it such a success!
Each center also held a volunteer recognition to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who help with our nutrition program. I attended several of the recognitions and met with volunteers, some of who just began volunteering and others who have been doing it for years.
At the McDonald County volunteer appreciation celebration in Noel, we had a delicious dinner, shared stories with volunteers and listened to great music from two local bands. The Barton County Senior Center in Lamar hosted an afternoon celebration where I met their youngest volunteer, Autumn. Autumn is only six years old and has been helping her grandmother, Pam, deliver meals for the past three years. I also met their oldest volunteer, Della, who is 92 years young!
At The Center in Carl Junction, I visited with some volunteers who have been delivering meals for the center since I came on board with the agency in 1996, and also met some of their newer volunteers. The Carthage C.A.N.D.O. center also hosted a barbeque for their volunteers, and we had a great evening together. The other centers have all shared with me stories of their own volunteer appreciation celebrations and all have enjoyed the events offered.
I would like to take this opportunity to tell all of the volunteers “thank you” for all you have done, and also, thanks to all of the staff, at each of the centers for the great jobs they do each day for our seniors and their communies. I appreciate each of you!
If you would like to join our wonderful group of volunteers, please contact your local senior center, or call our central office at (417) 781-7562 for more information.
