JOPLIN, Mo. —
July. What’s not to love? Sunshine, barbecues,, beaches, fresh fruits, swimming, family and vacations. Needless to say July is my favorite month of the year. I have waited all year for it.
People who live in parts of the world that have four seasons really look forward to summer with a great deal of joy. Winter wears me out. I’m glad the blizzard of February is just a memory. I was so cold, feeling trapped in my house and tired of living in the dark that when summer finally rolled around this past week, I couldn’t wait to get outdoors and enjoy summer and all the things one associates with summer.
Summer is finally here, and I am happy to spend as much time as possible enjoying what it has to offer. One thing that always signals summer for mere lightning bugs at twilight. They make me happy. When I see them on a warm evening, while I’m sitting on my porch, enjoying the summertime, I can’t help but smile. It makes me think of summers of the past and the good times I have had with family and friends.
Gardening is a favorite pastime, and July is a great month for flowers, fruits and veggies. If you don’t have space for a garden, try a few pots on the windowsill, or visit a local farmers market.
There are many ways to enjoy summer: relax in a hammock or chaise lounge, get your feet wet, either at the pool, river, lake or even the hose in the backyard. Make homemade ice cream and share. Have a picnic with the grandkids. Whatever you choose be sure to enjoy the moment, and savor summer.
July has been selected as the National month of Parks and Recreation. It was chosen because July is an awesome time to enjoy our National Parks. Several other national months have July as their choice: National Ice Cream month, National Blueberry month, National Picnic month, National Hot Dog month, National Family Reunion month. It’s clear to see that July is meant to be enjoyed.
