Freshman Bailey Belcher scored two second-half goals as Missouri Southern blanked Northwest Missouri State 2-0 Friday night in MIAA women’s soccer action at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.

Bailey snapped the scoreless tie in the 66th minute when her shot from five yards out found the left corner of the goal.

Almost 20 minutes later Belcher scored from point-blank range after Julia Liberty’s kick toward the net deflected off the Bearcats’ goalie. It was Belcher’s fifth goal of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Luz Galindo recorded four saves for the Lions (7-4-2, 3-2-1 MIAA). The loss dropped the Bearcats to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

The Lions entertain Missouri Western at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hughes.

MSSU spikers fall

KEARNEY, Neb. — Nebraska-Kearney lived up to its No. 3 national ranking by sweeping Missouri Southern 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-14) on Friday night at the Health & Sports Center.

Libero Ellie McDonnell had 12 digs to become the school’s career leader with 2,105 digs as the Lopers (23-1, 9-1 MIAA) won their 10th straight match and their 64th consecutive home match. Kendall Schroer had 10 kills for the Lopers, and Anna Squires and Julianne Jackson both had eight.

Bridgette Jaeger had eight kills and five digs, and Morgan Nash made 17 digs for the Lions (2-18, 2-8). MSSU also received 16 assists from Kylee Kaaihue and three blocks from Alicia Pickett.

The Lions continue league play tonight at 6 at Fort Hays State.

OCC bows

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Ozark Christian College lost its soccer and volleyball matches on Friday at Manhattan Christian.

Manhattan Christian scored two goals in the final 20 minutes for a 2-0 victory.

In volleyball, the host defeated OCC three sets to one.

Both Ambassador teams play today at Barclay University in Haviland, Kansas.
