Both Missouri Southern’s men’s and women’s basketball teams ranked among the top 20 in NCAA Division II for the fourth consecutive year as the NCAA released attendance figures this week for the 2017-18 season.
The Lions’ men’s team averaged 1,530 fans per game for 12 home dates to rank 14th nationally.
The women’s team averaged 986 fans for 16 home games, good for No. 18 nationally.
Total attendance was 18,359 for the men’s games and 15,779 for the women’s games.
Pittsburg State’s women ranked ninth in Division II, averaging 1,239 fans for 10 games.
The Gorilla men are 26th after averaging 1,258 fans for 15 games.
Fort Hays State led the MIAA in attendance in both sports, averaging 2,264 for men’s games (No. 6 nationally) and 2,053 for women’s games (No. 2 nationally).
Other MIAA men’s teams in the top 20 were Washburn at No. 7, Nebraska-Kearney at No. 8 and Central Missouri at No. 10.
More MIAA women’s teams in the top 20 were Emporia State fourth, Washburn fifth and Nebraska-Kearney 11th.
Northern State (S.D.) led the nation in attendance, averaging 3,732 for men’s games and 3,056 for women’s games.
In addition, the MIAA led the nation in attendance, averaging 1,231 fans for men’s games and 986 for women’s games.
