Southeast Kansas
is well represented
WICHITA, Kan. — Five senior football players from Southeast Kansas will represent the East in the 2009 Shrine Bowl scheduled for July 25 in Cessna Stadium at Wichita.
They include CNC Conference all-league performers Chas Smith of St. Mary’s-Colgan and Chase Williams of Riverton.
Picked from the Southeast Kansas League were Pittsburg’s Fred Sellars, Chanute’s Ty Blanchard and Independence’s Ethan Speicher.
Head coaches for the 2009 game are Rod Stallbaumer of Lyndon (East) and Bo Black of Great Bend (West).
Shrine Bowl team members were announced on Saturday night during the Kansas Shrine Bowl Hall of Fame banquet.
Inducted into the shrine were Mike Bell (former star at Wichita Bishop Carroll), Steve Henry (Seneca Nemaha Valley) and Kent Rogers (coach and administrator).
Oklahoma Wesleyan
topples Ambassadors
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Oklahoma Wesleyan, ranked fourth nationally in NAIA Division II, beat Ozark Christian College 106-44 in men’s basketball on Saturday.
Steven Tackett and Clancy Allmoslecher scored 10 and nine points, respectively, for OCC.
Oklahoma Wesleyan has lost just once in 15 games. It’s scored more than 100 points five times this season.
OCC will play in the Cookson Hills Classic at Kansas (Okla.) Tuesday through Thursday. The Ambassadors open against St. Louis Christian at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
