PITTSBURG, Kan. — Cory Abercrombie, a Pittsburg State senior, has been selected to compete in the third annual NABC/NCAA Division II All-Star basketball game.
Abercrombie, a 6-foot-7 forward, will play for the West team in the March 28 game in Springfield, Mass.
The all-star game is held in conjunction with the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Tournament.
Abercrombie, a native of Piedmont, S.C., averaged 17.3 points and 11.5 rebounds, helping Pittsburg State to an 18-10 record. He was one of only two players in the South Central Region to average a double-double for the season.
The MVP of the MIAA, Abercrombie was also the co-MVP of the South Central Region. He was also named to the MIAA’s all-defensive team.

The right-handed batting Drake, a junior from Webb City, boosted his hitting streak to 12 games on Wednesday with 4-of-5, including two doubles, and two RBI as the Bears beat Arkansas State 9-4.
Drake is averaging .423 on 30-of-71 with 6 doubles, 2 triples and 3 homers. He leads the team in RBI with 23.
The games on Saturday and Sunday are scheduled for 2 and 1 p.m.
Prep doubleheaders
planned at Carthage
CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage, Carl Junction and Webb City face prep baseball doubleheaders today at Carl Lewton Stadium.
The games are a result of a tournament cancellation earlier in the week because of rain, Carthage coach Scott Quinly said.
The schedule in Carthage Municipal Park is Carthage vs. Nixa at 10 a.m., Webb City vs. Carl Junction at 12:30 p.m., Carthage vs. Webb City at 3 and Joplin vs. Carl Junction at 5:30.
“It isn’t a tournament,” Quinly said. “It’s just scrambling and picking up games in a last-minute deal.”
