KEARNEY, Neb. — South Dakota pulled away in the second overtime to trip Washburn 85-80 in the NCAA Division II women’s Elite Eight basketball tournament on Wednesday night.
MIAA champion Washburn fell despite a 56-35 rebounding advantage. The Blues were guilty of 23 turnovers.
Corkey Stiger poured in 31 points for the Lady Blues, hitting 8-of-19 3-point shots. Stiger’s trey at 0:16 tied the game at 63 to set up the first overtime session.
Jessica Mainz hit another 3-pointer near the end of the first overtime for another deadlock at 73.
Janice Bright had 16 points for Washburn and Mainz and Amanda Holmes grabbed 11 rebounds each.
Jeana Hoffman scored 27 points to lead four players in double figures for South Dakota, which will meet Delta (Miss.) State tonight in the semifinal round.
