Crabtree, Frazier shine in all-star games

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Chanute’s Devon Crabtree and Labette County’s Kendra Frazier earned MVP awards and led their respective teams to victories on Sunday at the 2008 U.S. Army Southeast Kansas All-Star basketball games at St. Mary’s-Colgan Fieldhouse.

Crabtree scored 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead team KSEK to a 112-106 win in the boys game after Frazier’s 28 points, 17 rebounds and five steals paved the way for team KLKC’s 68-57 win in the girls contest.

Neodesha’s Stevi Schultz won the girls 3-point contest, hitting 11 of 25 attempts, while Pittsburg’s C.J. Fondren won the boys contest by going 12-of-25.

Pittsburg’s Sean Stotler won the slam dunk competition, edging out Erie’s Ethan Cornell.

In the girls game, Girard’s Alysha Poteat added 11 points to Frazier’s 28 for KLKC.

KSEK was led by 18 points from Cherryvale’s Katie DeTar and 11 points from Schultz. Columbus’ Maddie Overman added eight.

In the boys game, Fort Scott’s Tony Karleskint added 20 points to Crabtree’s 29-point effort for the winners while Humboldt’s Zach Cole had 16. Colgan’s Joe Wachter added nine while Baxter Springs’ Zach Wilson and Galena’s Mitch Albright each chipped in with eight.

Cornell led KLKC with 19. Iola’s Greg Hayes added 15 and Riverton’s Nathan Hughes had 14.
