COMMERCE, Okla. — The heavy rains have produced a revised schedule for the ninth annual Mickey Mantle Wooden Bat Classic.

The 12-team, four-division tournament originally was scheduled to last Tuesday through Saturday on Mickey Mantle Field at Commerce High School.

Today’s schedule on the Mickey Mantle Field is Commerce vs. Afton at 1 p.m., Sequoyah vs. Neosho at 3:15, Baxter Springs vs. Kansas at 5:30 and the Sequoyah-Neosho winner vs. the Baxter Springs-Kansas winner at 7:45.

Southern’s Horn

fourth in decathlon

EMPORIA, Kan. — Phillip Horn, a Missouri Southern junior, holds fourth place in a decathlon meet at Emporia State.

Horn scored 3,448 points in the first five events Thursday. The meet winds up with five more events today.

“Our goal is to hit about 6,500 points and get on the national list (qualifying for the Division II championships),” said Tom Rutledge, Southern coach.

Horn has a solid performance, including a 6-foot-2 effot in the high jump and an 11.38-second clocking in the 100-meter dash.
