From staff reports

sports@joplinglobe.com

Joplin hiked its girls soccer record to 9-5 and went to 3-1 in the Ozark Conference with a 6-0 win against Springfield Hillcrest at Junge Field on Thursday.

“We did a pretty good job,” Joplin coach Ed Miller said. “We moved the ball pretty quickly and really took it to them. We got everybody involved.”

The Eagles had 30 shots on goal, compared to one for the Hornets.

Kelsey Sanders scored three of the goals for Joplin, which led 3-0 at the end of the first half. Others scoring for the Eagles were Kelly Yount, Chelsea Damer and Lauren Schwab.

The Eagles will play at Waynesville on Tuesday beginning with the junior varsity game at 4:30 p.m.

CARL JUNCTON, Mo. — The Bulldogs improved to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big 8 Conference behind the pitching of senior left-hander Zak Porath.

Porath allowed three hits, struck out 12 and walked four.

The Bulldogs, who won their sixth in a row, snapped a 1-1 tie against Brendon Cox in the sixth inning with three runs. A walk to Porath and a single by Jon Michel set up Evan Clemons’ two-run single.

Travis Green’s double scored Drew Caruthers with a Carl Junction run in the second.

Kirk Moore’s triple and a sacrifice fly by Spenser Witt allowed the Cubs to tie the game in the fifth.
