Published May 01, 2007 12:58 am - Briefs: PSU’s Race signs with Chargers Pittsburg State running back Germaine Race was one of 22 undrafted free agents to sign with the San Diego Chargers on Monday.
Race will report to the Chargers’ mandatory rookie mini-camp Friday. Race holds the Division-II career rushing record with 6,985 yards. He finished third in the voting for the Harlon Hill Trophy, the D-II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, and wasn’t selected in this past weekend’s NFL draft. “I love creating competition,” Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said in a prepared statement. “These guys come in here and work their tails off as they try to become professionals. It makes everyone better, and history shows we’ve found quite a few undrafted players who make our team.” Missouri Southern to hold cookout Missouri Southern Lionbackers will hold their annual cookout at 6 p.m. today in Mayes Dining Hall. Anyone can attend. Cost is $5.
