CHC, Jasper sweep district track crowns

College Heights Christian School and Jasper swept district prep track and field championships on Saturday.
College Heights won both divisions of the Class 2 meet at Pierce City, while Jasper matched that accomplishment in the Class 1 district at Archie.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for sectional action next weekend at Lamar (Class 2) and Archie (where Class 1 athletes return).
Class 2
College Heights edged Stockton 102-99 for the boys team championships. Southwest High of Washburn was a distance third with 54.5 points and McAuley was eighth in a field of 16 teams.
The Cougars scored the bulk of their points in the distance events, including a rare 1-2-3-4 finish in the 3,200-meter run by Caleb Hoover, Ethan Beaver, Alex Moore and Josh Carter. In the 1,600, it was Carter first, Beaver second and Hoover third.
College Heights added a victory in the 4x800 relay.
Kevin O’Keefe had the lone victory over McAuley, clearing 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump.
Stockton’s Eric Peer doubled in the 100 and 200 dashes and Lucas Manring won the 800 and long jump.
In the girls division, College Heights ran away with the title, scoring 131 points. Pierce City edged Ash Grove 71-70 for second place. McAuley was eighth.
Brittney Lewis of CHC won the 100 and 400 dashes and was second to teammate Hannah Braeckel in the 200. Braeckel also won the long jump and placed second in the 100.
The Cougars’ Emily Beaver won the 800 and 1,600, and teammate Lacie Sparlin won the 3,200.
College Heights won the 4x800 relay by a 31.5-second margin.
In the 4x400 relay, McAuley edged the Cougars by the narrowest of margins. The Warriors were timed in 4:18.47 to CHC’s 4:18.48.
Class 1
Jasper won the boys division by a 54-point margin and the girls division by 39 points.
The Eagle boys scored 140 points. Rich Hill and Appleton City tied for second place with 86 points each.
In the girls division, Jasper had 123 points. Kansas City Lutheran on a close three-way battle for second place with 82 points to 79 for Archie and 77 for Liberal.
Jeff Piepenbrink won three events for the Jasper boys, the 110 and 300 hurdles and the pole vault. Greenfield’s Jordan Rhiem doubled in the 100 and 200.
Candice Talbot of Jasper doubled in the shot put and discus to spark the Jasper girls.
Lockwood’s Danielle Parker won the high jump and triple jump and placed second in the long jump.
Thomas Jefferson qualified three athletes — Allison Fraum in the 1,600, Summer Davidson in the 300 hurdles and Carly Luebber in the shot put and discus — for sectional action.
