FINDLAY, Ohio — Posting five almost identical scores, Missouri Southern finished in fourth place Wednesday in the NCAA Division II Central Regional golf tournament at Red Hawk Run Golf Course.
The Lions’ Adam Nelson, Seve Smith and Jamie Voegeli all carded 4-over-par 76s, and David Eddy and Ben Perry closed with 77s as the Lions had a final-round 305 score and a 54-hole total of 917.
MIAA winner Washburn had its highest team score of the tournament — a 299 — but the Ichabods’ 884 tourney total was 13 strokes better than runner-up Central Missouri.
Missouri Western, led by medalist Aaron Lisenbee, was third with 907, followed by the Lions’ 917, Southwest Baptist 919, Winona State (Minn.) 924, Upper Iowa 927 and Fort Hays State 944.
Nelson and Smith tied for 19th place at 14-over-par 230 to lead the Lions. Nelson, after an opening-round 78, shot 76s in the last two rounds, and Smith had rounds of 80-74-76.
Eddy and Perry had tournament totals of 233 and 235, respectively, and Voegeli, who led after a first-round 72, did not have a 54-hole score because of his second-round disqualification.
Pittsburg State’s Keith Capps, competing as an individual entry, shot 83-84-85—252 to tie for 41st place.
Lisenbee led the region with a par-216 after rounds of 76-65-75. Lisenbee, however, won’t advance to the national tournament. Joe Juszczyk of Wayne State (Mich.) shot 3-under-par to lead the Great Lakes Region golfers and claim the super regional’s lone individual automatic bid.
Indianapolis won the Great Lakes team title with 885, and Grand Valley State (Mich.) was second with 887, earning the super regional’s third team berth.
Brad Nipper of Southwest Baptist and Justin Yoder of Central Missouri tied for second in the Central Region with 219, and Washburn had four golfers finish in the top 10 — John Robbins with 220, Matt Ewald and Matt Salome with 223 and Ryan Deutsch with 224.
