Saturday’s storm produced a four-way tie for first place in the Joplin Women’s City Golf Championship.
Tammy Thomas and Leigh Ann Hackney of Briarbrook and Missy LIttle and Linda Ballard of Twin Hills shot 6-over-par 43s on the front nine at Schifferdecker Municipal Golf Course.
Just three of the six groups completed their round before the storm hit, forcing tournament officials to reduce the round to a nine-hole total.
Using the lowest four scores on each team, Briarbrook grabbed the team lead with 175, followed by Schifferdecker 183, Twin Hills 190 and Eagle Creek 198.
Beth Parmley of Eagle Creek, Esther Alumbaugh of Schifferdecker and Jill West of Briarbrook carded 44s to share fifth place. Deb McFarland of Briarbrook was next with 45, and Schifferdecker’s Jo Poyzer and Pam Borland had 46s to complete the top 10.
The tournament resumes at 11 a.m. today at Briarbrook Golf and Country Club. The second round was originally scheduled to be played at Eagle Creek but was changed after hail pelted the Eagle Creek layout.
