Three MMA titles won at ‘Brawl’

Zak Cummings of the Springfield Fight Club won the main event in the Xtreme Cage Fighting’s “Brawl at the Hall” on Friday night at Joplin’s Memorial Hall.
In the last of three title fights on the card, Cummings, competing in the 205-pound weight class, defeated Jason Broom of Team Extreme. While many of the fights had the majority of action on the canvas, this bout was mostly an upright slugfest before Cummings was able to take Broom to the mat, and the referee stopped that fight at 2 minutes, 21 seconds in the second round.
In earlier title bouts, 145-pounder Shad Lankford of Seneca scored a unanimous decision over Randy Villarreal, a Texan who enterted the match with only one loss.
At 170 pounds, Tyson Rainey of the Springfield Fight Club defeated David Myers of Joplin’s Pain Fight Club when the referee stopped the fight in the second round. Rainey improved his record to 6-2, and Myers lost for the third time in nine pro bouts.
The three title fights headlined the card of 11 mixed martial arts bouts.
In the first fight, 155-pounder Brett Powell improved his MMA record to 4-0 by forcing Weston Frisby to submit at the 1:20 mark of the first round. The fight was Frisby’s first as a professional.
In a 170-pound matchup of fighters making their pro debuts, Donny Pennington of Nevada beat Ivan Hernandez when the referee stopped the bount seven seconds into the third and final period.
Joplin native Craig Gilmore was knocked out by Willima Morgan two minutes into the second round. Gilmore, 145 pounds, suffered his second loss in six fights.
At 185, Victor McCullough of Pittsburg won by knockout over Noah Weber at 1:11 of the first round, raising McCullough’s record to 3-0.

135 pounds—Andy Chiu, Arlington, Texas, beat Ryan Tucker, Carthage, RSC at 0:21 of the first period;
205—Thien Nguyen, Arlington, beat Jesse Frye, Nevada, RSC at 1:02 of the first period;
155—Parker Whitman defeated Josh Hooks, RSC 3:00 of the first period;
