CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Webb City’s Brett Richardson hurled a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the No. 1 Cardinals hammered No. 8 seed East Newton 15-0 in five innings in the first round of the Class 3 District 15 Tournament.

Richardson came an error away from turning in a perfect game but still faced only one more batter than the minimum.

The Cardinals scored six runs in the second and nine more in the third despite collecting a total of nine hits — the Patriots committed seven errors in the game.

Eli Dykens tripled and hit a home run to lead the Cardinals. Chance Sossamon smashed a double and a triple.

In other action, No. 3 Carl Junction downed No. 6 Mount Vernon 5-2, No. 7 McDonald County upset No. 2 Seneca 3-1 and No. 4 Carthage bounced No. 5 Nevada 3-1.

Zak Porath (7-2) was the winner for Carl Junction. Porath had 13 strikeouts one walk, allowing four hits.

Chris Green and Josh Clark each led the Bulldogs with two hits apiece.

Carthage will face Webb City at 4 p.m. and Carl Junction squares off with McDonald County at 6 p.m. in today’s semifinals.

Class 2 District 10

PURDY, Mo. — Seventh-seeded Diamond sent No. 2 Sarcoxie packing 5-3 in the first round.

The Wildcats led the entire game but added two important insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run single to center by Jake Edge that made the score 5-1.

Clint Myers (4-3) scattered six hits and allowed one earned run in 6 2/3 innings.

In other games, No. 1 Purdy hammered No. 8 Southwest 13-1, No. 6 College Heights upset No. 3 Lamar 5-3 and No. 4 Pierce City dumped No. 5 McAuley 22-3.
