Thomas Jefferson, Webb City netters win

Thomas Jefferson and Webb City cruised to 6-0 home victories on Tuesday afternoon in Class 1 boys tennis team regional play.
The Cavaliers (9-1) and Cardinals (12-2) advance to sectional play on Saturday. Forsyth is the sectional host, but the matches likely will be played at Branson.
First-round sectional matchups pit Thomas Jefferson vs. West Plains (9-2) and Webb City vs. Forsyth (13-2). West Plains downed Rogersville 6-1 in its regional match while Forsyth slipped past Branson 5-4.

The Cavaliers, the defending team state champion, won five singles matches by 8-2 scores and another by an 8-1 margin.
At No. 1 singles, Will Humphreys beat Brett Jones in a rematch of their district tournament semifinal meeting last Saturday morning.
Joe Newman, Spenser Newman, David Evans, Coleman Bandy and Andrew Prigmore also won for the Cavaliers.

WEBB CITY, Mo. — For the first time in a long time the Webb City Cardinals have advanced to secionals after blanking Springfield Catholic 6-0 in team regionals at Webb City High School.
The Cardinals’ Ryan Miller, Caleb Shewmake, Michael Handley, Chase Dilworth, Randon Coffey and Austin Webber swept the singles matches. The longest match was at No. 3 where Handley beat Connor Dahlberg 6-1, 6-7, 6-2.
“All year I’ve had guys who have really stepped up to the challenge and played really well,” Cardinals coach Ryan Odaffer said. “They’ve really earned what they’re doing.”
The win boosts the Cardinals to a 12-2 record in duals this season.
“We’ve come a long way in a short period of time,” he said. “I belive this may be the first time in a long time that the tennis team has been this far. I’m proud of every single one of (the players).”
