Slashers’ parents
meeting planned
A team meeting for host parents of Joplin Slashers players will be held at Tuesday.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Airport Drive Municipality Building, according to Mark Rains, director of host parents for the Slashers.
Additional host families are needed to keep players between the end of May and the end of July.
The Slashers play in the Jayhawk League, a non-pro baseball division for college players who are too young to be drafted.
Players are scheduled to report on May 28. The team will play its opening game on June 1, on the road. The home opener will be June 5, against the Nevada Griffons.
The Slashers have also scheduled a youth clinic on Saturday, June 7, at Joe Becker Stadium. The event, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, is for players age 12 and under.

Double points
races set tonight
LEBANON, Mo. — Double points in all classes except (United States Racing Association) modified will be on the line tonight in stock car racing at Midway Speedway.
Tonight’s classes, in addition to USRA modified, are B-modified, factory stock, super stock, bomber and 305 winged sprint. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 6:50 and races at 8.
The track, because of inclement weather, has held just two of seven scheduled shows.
