WICHITA, Kan. — Chase Keyser of Galena won the Class 3A boys high jump to headline area performances Friday at the KSHSAA state track meet at Cessna Stadium.
Keyser, a junior, cleared 6 feet, 6 inches to secure the state title. Taylor Buck of Medicine Lodge also cleared 6-6, but Keyser won the event based on fewer misses.
In another 3A field event, Brad Hefley of Riverton placed sixth in the shot put (50 feet, 91/2 inches).
On the track, Southeast’s Nick Renfro qualified third in the 300 intermediate hurdles (39.99 seconds), and Riverton’s Brenton Cates qualified fifth in the 400 meters (51.26).
Pittsburg picked up three medals in 5A field events. Amber Kloster took third in the shot put (38-10) and fifth in the javelin (131-7), and Jordan Bicknell was fifth in the high jump (6-4).
In 4A boys, Fort Scott’s Clint Lawrence placed second in the javelin (180-2), and Brandon Boyd was fourth in the long jump (22-13/4).
Labette County’s Katelyn Penner was seventh in both the discus (120-4) and shot put (38-9), and Fort Scott’s Breianna Jones finished third in the triple jump (36-21/2).
St. Mary’s-Colgan qualified three entries for today’s 2A girls finals.
Hillary Dickey and Grace Miller qualified fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400 at just over one minute. They joined Jamie Naylor and Faith Miller to qualify second in the 4x400 relay at 4:13.79, four seconds behind Sublette.
