FAIRBURY, Neb. — Carl Junction’s Andrew Felker continued his hot streak in mini-sprint racing this past weekend at the Jefferson County Speedway.
Felker, 14, pocketed $10,000 on Sunday night by winning the 50-lap main event of the Race for Life Non-Wing Challenge.
Felker won the 30-lap preliminary Saturday night to secure the pole for the 26-car main event at the slightly banked 1/4-mile dirt track.
The two wins made it nine features in a row and 10 of 11 for Felker. Sunday’s check was the biggest of his career.
It was the first appearance for Felker at Jefferson County Speedway.
“The race car handled very well,” said Andrew Felker, whose dad Danny is in the pits. “We didn’t change much on the race car the whole weekend. I love the track. That preliminary victory helped my confidence.”
Felker led all 50 laps Sunday night and all 30 in the preliminary.
The non-wing division of the program attracted about 100 race cars. Felker, in a heat race Friday night, finished second after starting 10th. Then he led all 10 laps in a qualifying race.
Felker shrugged off two flags that temporarily halted the racing during the A feature.
Familiar opponents from Oklahoma followed Felker to the finish line. Trailing in the top five were Chris Andrews, Tulsa; Riley Adair, Broken Arrow; Zach Alley, Claremore, and Kevin Bayer, Broken Arrow.
Sponsors for Felker include Auto Express and 66 Truck and Foreign Salvage, both of Joplin; Factor One Chassis of Broken Arrow, Momo Racing Engines of Tulsa and Hoosier Tires.
Felker will compete at three tracks this weekend in Oklahoma. It will be Will Rogers Raceway at Claremore on Friday night, Port City Raceway at Catoosa on Saturday night and Creek County Speedway at Kellyville on Sunday.
