Prep standouts win 5K races

Two area high school runners captured top 5K honors Saturday morning at Boomtown Days in Joplin.
Caleb Hoover, a standout at College Heights Christian School, won the male open event in 16 minutes, 34 seconds.
Courtney Wood, from Neosho, won the female race in 19:51.
No area runners were in the top three in the half marathon open.
Kipruto Rotich, Columbia, won the male division in 1:08.01, while Melissa Todd, Kansas City, won the female race in 1:21.24.
Masters overall winners were Jane Hutchison of Joplin and Michael Carman of Granby in the 5K and Karen Plucinski of Joplin and Dean Casady of Rogersville in the 1/2 marathon.
More than 500 runners — including entries from Little Rock and Dallas — competed in the events.
