The Dugout Dawgs scored four runs in the fourth inning and held off Austin (Texas) Wings Black 4-3 Thursday afternoon at Joe Becker Stadium during the second day of the Premier Baseball Incoming Freshman Championship tournament.

The Dawgs, who lost twice on Wednesday, trailed 1-0 before their fourth-inning uprising.

An error opened the door for the decisive inning, and Austin Karnes (from Baxter Springs), Jono Crockett (Baxter Springs), Jake Lux (Wyandotte) and Colton Krokroskia (Baxter Springs) delivered singles.

The Dawgs retained their 4-1 advantage until the seventh when the Wings Black scored two runs.

Lux had another hit to lead the Dawgs’ attack.

The Dugout Dawgs lost their next game 11-0 to the Wichita Sluggers at Joplin High School.

In other action involving local teams, the Southwest Missouri Miners scored a total of 26 runs but lost both games at Joplin High School.

Austin Wings Red rallied to outslug the Miners 17-11. The Miners lost their next game 17-11 to the Arlington A’s Blue.

The Miners’ Jeff Terry (Joplin), Payton Walker (Carl Junction) and Preston Ryser (Joplin) all stroked three hits against Austin Wings Red, including a triple by Ryser and double by Terry.

Walker and Ryser both collected two singles and a double against Arlington.

The Southwest Longhorns also went 1-1 on Thursday, nipping the South Texas Sliders Navy 4-3 at Webb City’s Barnes Field and losing 11-3 to the Arlington A’s Red at Seneca High School.

In pool-play games today, the Southwest Missouri Miners face the South Texas Sliders White at noon at JHS, the Dugout Dawgs play the Fort Worth Cats at noon at Barnes Field and the Southwest Longhorns meet the Austin Slam at noon at Gabby Street Park.
