BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Cory Macy singled in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in Patrick Bennett with the Joplin Miners’ winning run Thursday in the second day of the Glen Winget Fourth of July Baseball Tournament.
The Miners (16-12) nipped Emporia, Kan., 6-5. They take on Bartlesville at 8:15 p.m. today to wrap up pool play.
The Miners, behind Calvin Burr, had a 5-0 shutout going until the top of the sixth inning, when the Kansas team knotted the score at 5-all. Shayne Hoke, who sparkled at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBI, relieved Burr in the sixth and finished up to get the pitching win.
Travis Kunce collected two doubles and a single for Joplin, driving in one run. Barrett Noirfalise went 2-for-4 for the Miners.
