Slashers rap 15 hits in 5-3 loss to NevadaFro

NEVADA, Mo. — The Nevada Griffons, although outhit 15-9, beat the Joplin Slashers 5-3 in non-pro Jayhawk League baseball on Thursday night at Lyons Stadium.
The Griffons, who scored two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth for a 5-0 lead, improved to 15-10 overall and 11-9 in the Jayhawk entering today’s 7 p.m. home non-league game against the Southwest Elite.
Joplin (9-16, 6-16) is idle until a 1 p.m. road game on Sunday at Kansas City against the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Grays.
Joplin, which left 16 runners to 10 by Nevada, received four hits, including a home run and double, and two RBI from designated hitter Joe Walton. Left fielder Kyle Hawkins had three hits and the other RBI.
Shortstop Colby Price and catcher Tyler Smith each added two hits for the Slashers.
Nevada was paced by Tyler Redick’s three hits and two apiece by Tommy Fitzgerald and Logan Meisler. Redick and Meisler drove in two runs apiece.
Mike Robinson, a left-hander, allowed 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings in claiming the mound decision. Robinson, 2-1, struck out two and walked just one.
Griffon right-hander Nick Phillips notched his fourth save by working a scoreless ninth.
