Published July 06, 2008 11:09 pm - BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Rogers County from Claremore, Okla., erupted for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning and knocked off the Joplin Miners 15-8 Sunday afternoon in the Glen Winget Fourth of July Tournament.
The Miners, who defeated Rogers (Ark), Emporia (Kan.) and host Bartlesville to win their pool, led 8-6 after a four-run fourth inning. But Rogers County pulled even with two runs in the fifth, then took control with their seventh-inning spree.


Seventh-inning rally dooms Miners

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Rogers County from Claremore, Okla., erupted for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning and knocked off the Joplin Miners 15-8 Sunday afternoon in the Glen Winget Fourth of July Tournament.

The Miners, who defeated Rogers (Ark), Emporia (Kan.) and host Bartlesville to win their pool, led 8-6 after a four-run fourth inning. But Rogers County pulled even with two runs in the fifth, then took control with their seventh-inning spree.

Taylor Byrd and Calvin Burr stroked three hits apiece to pace Joplin’s 13-hit attack. Byrd drove in one run.

The Miners’ Shayne Hoke collected three runs batted in with a two-run double in the third inning and run-scoring single in the fourth, and Corey Simmons added a single, double and one RBI.

Joplin’s Travis Kunce and Hoke were named to the all-tournament team.

The Miners (17-14) play a doubleheader tonight at Carthage, starting at 6.
