Steven Forman and Cory Parr completed their first year of college doubles together this year, but the way they looked Friday in the USTA Freeman $10,000 Futures Tournament, you would swear they were lifelong partners.

The team from Wake Forest (Forman will be a junior and Parr a senior) climaxed their breeze through the doubles bracket with a 6-2, 6-3 championship win against Thailand’s Weerapat Doakmaiklee and Kirati Siributwong at the Millennium Tennis and Fitness Club.

The Demon Deacon duo, who were allowed to play in the tournament as a wild card based on their successful college record this past season, swept past four teams in straight sets to capture their first-ever Futures title. This also marked the first time for them to play together in a Futures event.

They finished the season at Wake Forest ranked seventh in the nation.

“Good college tournaments are very similar to the Futures,” Parr said following the victory.

Although Forman and Parr did not face any seeded players in their march to the final, they did defeat the Thai players who upset top-seeded Adriano Biasella, from Italy, and Daniel Garza, Mexico, in the semifinals.

The Wake Forest pair broke serve twice to go on top 4-1 in the opening set, then used booming serves of their own to close out the set.

Both teams broke each other’s serve to open the final set and the Thai team pulled in front with another service break to lead 3-2. But that was their last lead as Forman and Parr won the next four games.
