Stingrays capture title
NEVADA, Mo. — The Joplin Stingrays swim team won the Nevada Invitational Swim Meet on July 28.
The Stingrays had several individuals receive high-point trophies in their respective age categories. Lana Desmond (8-under girls), Andrew Chesney (8-under boys), Myra Sprinkle (13-14 girls) and Kate Blundell (15-18 girls) were high-point trophy winners.
Joplin (winning first with 624 points) and Lamar (second at 463) were followed by the Nevada Neptunes (third, 439.5), Monett Water Thrashers (fourth, 178.5), Carthage Aquatic Team (fifth, 168), Missouri State Aquatics (sixth, 59), Claremore Stingrays (seventh, 39), Branson Waves (eighth, 12), Webb City Cardinals (ninth, 6) and the Siloam Springs Flyers (10th, 5).
Girls who recorded firsts for Joplin in individual races were:
n Blundell, age 17, 50-meter fly (29.93); 100-meter freestyle (55.56); 50-meter breaststroke (34.69).
n Desmond, age 8, 25-meter fly (17.93); 50-meter freestyle (37.65); 25-meter breaststroke (22.43).
n Raelynn Desmond, age 10, 100-meter freestyle (1:19.09).
n Sydney Hackwell, age 8, 25-meter backstroke (22.34).
n Myra Sprenkle, age 14, 50-meter freestyle (28.87); 50-meter backstroke (33.47); 100-meter freestyle (1:03.93).
n Sharae Alford, age 13, 50-meter fly (33.53).
Firsts for the Joplin boys were:
n Daniel Burkett, age 17, 200-meter freestyle (2:37.34).
n Chesney, age 8, 100 Individual Medley (1:40.15); 50-meter freestyle (38.73).
