Briefs: NEO football players return to camp today MIAMI, Okla. — Nearly 50 sophomores and more than 80 freshmen are expected to report today to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College for the start of preseason football.
NEO coach Rob Green said players will register from noon until 2 p.m. in the lobby of Russell Hall. “Things certainly have been crazy around here these past few weeks since the flood got in our facilities,” Green said. “But the workers have done a phenomenal job to turn the fieldhouse locker room into a magnificent place. “Everything has been cleaned, sanitized and painted,” Green said. “It’s remarkable the pride and professionalism these workers have shown in getting everything ready to go.” The Golden Norsemen open the season at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25 by entertaining Fort Dodge (Kan.). Most of today will be used getting players settled into dorms, enrolled and getting financial aid taken care of, Green said. Sophomores will begin workouts in shorts and helmets at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Green also will serve as offensive coordinator. Completing the staff are Donnie Bigby, defensive coordinator Travis Rhatigan, Kyle Woods, J. Dee Marinko, Jarod Green and Mac Whitehead. Area soccer officials will meet Thursday The Ozark Soccer Officials Association will meet at about 8 p.m. Thursday at Joplin High School following a MSHSAA rules meeting. More details are available about the OSOA meeting by calling Chuck Lonardo, (417) 782-5299 or 781-5162. Persons interested in becoming a soccer official should attend the meeting.
