sports@joplinglobe.com DENTON, Texas — Record-setting days by junior Sarah Joles and sophomore Kari Hammerbacher led Missouri Southern to a sweep on Saturday in the Texas Woman’s University Invitational. The Lions improved to 6-3 with five-game victories over Harding University and Texas Woman’s. Joles had 73 assists against Texas Woman’s and Hammerbacker had 54 digs. Both totals were five-game Southern school records. Joles broke the record of 71 assists set in 1996 by Jenny Easter against North Alabama. Hammerbacher broke the record of 45 digs set by Missy Beveridge against Columbia College in 1990. The Lions beat Texas Woman’s 32-30, 23-30, 30-26, 27-30, 15-8. Southern had 157 team digs with senior Sarah Hoffmeister addinhg 33, Ashlee Russell 24 and Jenna Feldman 20. Senior Ashley Wright led Southern with 17 kills. Russell had 16, Amelia Judge 15, Feldman 13 and Hoffmeister 11. “We’re very balanced right now,” said coach Chris Willis. The Lions prevailed against Harding, a regional opponent, 30-24, 22-30, 30-26, 28-30, 15-11. Wright had 13 kills and seven blocks and Judge had 12 kills and six blocks. Hammerbacher had 28 digs and Hoffmeister 19. Russell had five ace serves. The Lions play in the Harding Tournament next weekend in Searcy, Ark. SOCCER
